If it is necessary for your child to be absent from the school, please send a note with your child when they return to school explaining the absence. Absence notes are available at the office.
Delivering and collecting children by car can be a hazard if drivers do not obey the parking notices and road laws. A few extra metres walk will do your child more good than harm. All parents are asked to park on the school side of Crofts Road.
Every child who has asthma (however slight) must have an asthma plan provided by your family doctor. Asthma attacks can arise quickly and without much warning, with possible disastrous results. Cobains is an Asthma friendly school and all staff are regularly trained to support students having an asthma attack.
It is absolutely imperative that we are able to contact you in the case of an emergency. Please notify the school promptly of change of address, telephone numbers, or person who will care for your child in an emergency.
Under no circumstance are students permitted to leave the school ground during school hours. Children leaving school early must be signed out at the office in the ‘Early Departure Register’.
The school hires a Nit Nurse to check all children's hair when there is an outbreak of head lice. This helps to minimise outbreaks and supports families in controlling head lice in our school community. Parents are asked to be diligent in treating their child's hair. Parents are urged to contact the school if headlice are found so that other famililies from the same class can be encouraged to check and treat as required.
Infectious diseases require exclusion from school as infections spread quickly. Click here to see a table detailing the minimum period of exclusion from Primary School for children with an infectious disease.
If at any time, children require medications during school hours, please make arrangements to bring the medication to school at the required time and administer it to your child. If no other arrangements can be made, then an authorisation form will need to be completed before school staff can administer any medications. Contact the office for details.
If your child is required to bring money to school for any reason, please ensure that it is carefully sealed in an envelope and labelled with the child's name, amount and purpose.The school does not have EFTPOS facilities, however we do provide direct deposit information and cash is acceptable. A written receipt will be issued for cash payments of $50 or more.
All excursions require parental / guardian permission. Approval forms will be sent home prior to each excursion. Please help by returning the form on or before the date requested. Excursion forms are usually attached to the weekly school newsletter.
All students are expected to wear the Cobains Primary School uniform. Every student is given a school hat at the commencement of their time at Cobains Primary courtesy of the school. Replacement hats can be ordered at the school office for $10. Uniform items are available with the school logo from JSM Embroidery Workwear and Safety 71 -73 MacArthur Street Sale. Some second-hand items are available at the office ($2.00 donation).

You are welcome to visit the school at any time, but remember to sign the Visitor’s Book in the office if you arrive after 9.00 am. However, if you wish to talk at length with a teacher, please arrange an appointment time.
